Art 1 Information for F 29-March 4

This week- Finish your magazine pop-up book by Thursday. It must have a background, middle ground and foreground. Each component is worth 10 points. 

Then experiment with your materials to create your planned pop-up. Remember, at least 75% must be created by hand. This must also have a background, middle ground and foreground. It should also be neat and be able to pop-up. IMG_0485

FFF1- Information for Week of February 22-25

Monday is the last day in class to work on the quilt squares. They are due by Friday. Come in during lunch or after school on Tuesday and Thursday to finish. 

Those who are down with their quilts can make a puzurs (straw ornament). For this you will need 12 pieces of straws exactly the same size.  

Complete notes for necktie construction. 

Tuesday we will begin creating neckties, by first responding to a series of questions.

Tuesday we will begin by experimenting with pop-up book technology using the tab type of construction. 

Our first small pop up will be to explore the concepts of background/middle ground and foreground.

Then we will work on illustrating your time periods. 

 

FFF 2 Information for Week of February 22-26

THIS WEDNESDAY WE ARE GOING TO VOGUE FABRICS IN EVANSTON. 

Meet at door M at the start of 2nd period with your purse, but leave your book bags in your locker. Bring money for lunch. 

The GOAL of our field trip is to learn more about the store and for you to select fabrics to design/create an outfit. Each of you will have a budget of $25- that means you can buy $27.50 worth of materials. I will give you a worksheet to fill out for each of your fabrics. Please refer to the following link for estimating yardage for garments.

You may also decide to spend time with the pattern books for yardage estimates.

Choose ONE of the following to write about. Due Monday, February 29th.

An illustrated guide to garment specific terms

  • How have your family members influenced your sense of style

  • Have you ever coveted someone else’s clothing? Please describe.

  • What are some rules of dressing you would like everyone to know?

  • Describe specific articles of clothing that have the ability to change your mood. How/why do clothes have that power?

FFF1 Information for February 16-19

Please use this week to finish up your quilt squares #2.

Use the written instructions to help you.

Next week we will be creating neckties. Since the links cannot be viewed in class, please watch the video on creating neckties and bullet point out instructions that will help you. Please complete this and have notes ready to turn in next Monday.

Please have your permits for next week’s field trip signed and returned to me by this week Thursday. 

Please also turn in your UNDERSTANDING YOUR PATTERN worksheet by then. 

This week you should be working on your garment construction. 

Art 1 Information for February 16-19

This week you will finish up your personal quilt square. ALL fabrics will be put away on Thursday, so please get your supplies by then. Follow printed directions for adding binding. 

For next Monday please respond to the following questions. 

Select a time in the past that fascinates you. 

What century? 

What decade? 

What year? 

Imagine a scene from this time and place

Is it inside? If so, where? 

Is it outside? If so, where? 

Who is there? 

What are they doing? 

Then collect images (cell phone photos are OK, so are pictures from books or magazines) 

Describe an image that could be a background

Describe an image that could be a middle ground

Describe an image that could be a foreground 

Feel free to use this week to look at books in the classroom. They may help you generate some unique ideas that will inspire your tab construction pop-up book.

Apron Instructions

Some students who are finished with the quilt #2 (no later than Tuesday) may want to start on an apron. Next week we will begin with neckties. (Feb 22-26)

I can provide the fabric- or you can buy 1.25 yards of cotton that is 42-44″ wide to make it the style you want.
